Will Power Confronts Alex Palou after Mid-Ohio Practice

“You just [expletive] my whole session,” Will Power shouted at Alex Palou after practice on Saturday morning at Mid-Ohio. This outburst seemed to stem from the mounting frustration experienced over the weekend as drivers tried to secure a clean lap during practice.

Will Power’s Frustration
Power spoke with FOX Sports on the broadcast prior to qualifying, expressing his annoyance: “[He] spent four laps just going slow, so I had to keep backing up, backing up, backing up, which was frustrating,” he shared. “And then I came in to make a change, went out for a money lap, and [they] sent him out of the pit right in front of me, and he didn’t move.”
He continued, “He just kept going, and I had to back up again. He didn’t have anyone in front of him, and I had clear space behind me. He could have just backed off, which I always do for him and anyone else.”
Power noted that Palou apologized, acknowledging that he understood the situation, but Power recognized that Palou was likely following instructions: “It’s frustrating for everyone to get a lap because these tracks are small and there are so many cars,” he said.
Palou’s Response
Palou, for his part, understood why Power was upset and joked that Power “gave me some compliments,” explaining that he comprehended the frustration surrounding traffic: “Everybody is complaining about traffic, and we’re all angry that we don’t get clear laps,” he mentioned. “Maybe he thought we did something personal to him ph7.com casino. For sure, that was not the intention… I was always a second or two seconds in front of him. He was just having to back off,” Palou explained, adding, “I never tried to defend or anything. He was a little bit upset, and that’s OK.”
The Season’s Challenges
Power’s irritation had been echoed earlier in the weekend, as he noted: “[The biggest challenge] is probably people backing off, simply.” Colton Herta added that if this occurs early in the lap, it ruins the entire lap. “You just don’t really get laps,” Herta stated. “So you’re kind of guessing the last half of the track, where to put it and how much speed to carry when you get the softer tire reds on.” He further commented, “It definitely disrupts the flow of your work progress for sure.”
This frustration seemed to summarize Power’s feelings when he confronted Palou post-practice. Known for being one of the more emotional drivers, Power usually expresses his feelings openly but tends to move on quickly as well.
This season has been particularly challenging for Power. The Team Penske driver currently sits seventh in the standings with just one podium finish recorded (the Indianapolis Grand Prix in May).
